This week I am posting from Small Island by Andrea Levy
Friday Book Beginnings is a weekly meme where we share the opening line of our current read. Book Beginnings is hosted by the Rose City Reader.
Prologue
Queenie
I thought I'd been to Africa. Told all my class I had.
One
Hortense
It brought it all back to me. Celia Langley. Celia Langley standing in front of me, her hands on her hips and her head in a cloud.
Friday 56 hosted @ Freda's Voice is a weekly Meme where we share an interesting snippet from page 56 of our current book.
There were sixty pupils in the first class I had to teach. Sixty children fidgeting like vermin behind rows of wooden desks.

Very tempting snippets...thanks for sharing!
Here's MY FRIDAY MEMES POST
Great snippets!
60 students behaving like that is certainly a handful. comparing them to vermin is a tad cruel i think but it does give the sentence character. thanks for sharing and for stopping by my blog too!
It's interesting that she thinks she's been to Africa. Does that mean she doesn't remember?
Thanks for visiting my blog!
Hi Chris,
She is a child, she visits an exhibition on Africa and believes that she had been to Africa.
Wonderful post. Thanks for stopping by. Nice to meet you!

Haha, she doesn't seem enthralled about teaching those kids at all...
I haven't read Small Island by Levy. I want to read it so badly. Hope to get to it before the end of summer. Hope you're enjoying it.
So...does this mean she hasn't been to Africa? Hmmm?
Here are my Friday Memes
