It sounded like a joke.
DeKok shook his head.
"I'm afraid," he said sadly, "your spiritual guidance would be wasted on us. You see, we're children of Satan."

The beginning of my book is a weather forecast too. Your beginning made me feel pretty chilly.
Wow! that woke me up. Is he serious??? Interesting, really interesting.
I like the 56, I'm not sure if he is serious or being sarcastic.
That opening made me shiver -- perfect for the unseasonably cold weather we are having here in Portland.
But the "children of Satan" thing is really creepy!
